LECKIE PARK

Public BBQ

Leckie Park in Alexandra proves that some places possess a timeless charm that transcends generations. This well-maintained green space strikes that perfect balance between nostalgia and modern practicality that makes a proper Australian park work. The open expanses immediately catch your attention – vast enough for model aeroplane enthusiasts and energetic children alike. The playground, while modest, serves younger families well, though one wishes for more sheltered seating options beyond the charming mini rotunda. The electric barbecues are strategically positioned near picnic tables, ideal for those who fancy grabbing supplies from the nearby shops for an impromptu feast. What elevates Leckie Park beyond mere functionality is its character. The swing bridge provides that irresistible urge to make it rock (as any sensible person would), while the walking paths weave past exercise stations and native trees worth studying. The creek proximity adds a peaceful soundtrack, complemented by resident birdlife that seems genuinely unbothered by human activity. The toilets are refreshingly clean – always worth noting – and the dog-friendly policies ensure four-legged family members aren't left behind. While the sheltered seating could use improvement, the abundant shade and well-kept grounds more than compensate.
